Herschel Open Time Cycle-2 Observation Planning Workshop

Topic

The Herschel Science Centre (HSC) is organising a Herschel Observation Planning Workshop oriented toward the Open Time Cycle-2 submission.

The workshop will include:

  • Overview of the Herschel mission, with special attention to Herschel operations and how they affect observation planning.
  • Instrument presentations, with a detailed description of available observing modes and their use for particular science tasks.
  • Overview of previously accepted proposals and how to avoid duplications with observations in the Reserved Observation List.
  • A lot of practical information that will help you when preparing your proposal observing plan.
  • Practical demonstrations on the use of HSpot - the Herschel Observation Planning Tool. You will learn how to generate and improve your observing requests.
  • Topic oriented hands-on sessions, with time to work in the preparation of your own proposals and the possibility to ask the HSC experts for advice in real time.

Draft Agenda

A preliminary version of the Herschel Open Time Cycle-2 Observation Planning Workshop agenda is available here. We anticipate that the morning session on Monday 20 June will start at around 09:00h and the afternoon session on Tuesday 21 June will end not later than 16:30h.

Accomodation and Transportation

A limited number of rooms have been pre-booked with a special discount price in Hotel NH Alberto Aguilera located in the centre of Madrid. The rooms will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants need to make their own reservations directly with the hotel quoting reservation number 122549501 (ESA conference) for the discount.

A free bus service will be organized between the Hotel NH Alberto Aguilera and ESAC during the workshop dates. The bus will leave every morning at 8:15 sharp from the Hotel NH Alberto Aguilera.

The workshop will be held at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) situated in Villanueva de la Cañada, about 30kms North-West of Madrid.
